Which is probably Fernando and Apache currently (apologies to anyone else not
mentioned). Have you experimented with the cloth sim which is part of POVman
0.71.4? I know that re-inventing the wheel is fun (particle system anyone?), but
this simulator can do wind, rudimentary collision detection (this is _slow_), the
cloth can interact with many pov objects, etc. The code behind it may inspire
your own efforts as readers of p.b.a enjoy your anims.

An example anim that I did with this package (at least 6 months ago) can be found

It includes friction, changing wind, poor lighting, horrible textures, etc. It is
